Fused Fashions
One of a kind, hand crafted, fused glass jewelry at affordable prices.
Making glass jewelry started with a love of working with glass. It has been said that "if you do something you really love, you will never have to work a day in your life" (author unknown). Well, we feel that way about making our glass jewelry. It is a joy not a chore. |

We have worked on many stain glass projects over the last 15 years. Working with glass is better than going to therapy. You concentrate so much on what you are doing that everything else just does not exist for that moment. We started making fused glass jewelry as a way to use our love for working with glass in a new light. We live in the country and like our work to include some of the breathtaking colors of nature. We are intrigued by the fact that you start with a piece of glass and let your creativity guide you as to what is going to become the finished product. You put one piece into the kiln for a firing beyond 1400 degrees and the molecular structure of the glass changes with the heat. You can never be sure of what is going to appear until you open the kiln. This can be very exciting or frustrating depending on if you like surprises.
One of our favorite types of glass is Dichroic. It is created by vaporizing metallic oxide onto sheets of glass in a controlled vacuum. It contains multiple micro-layers of metal oxides which give it the optical properties. The more layers that are used the more variation of color you achieve. The invention of this glass is often erroneously attributed to NASA. Dichroic glass jewelry is definitely one that will get noticed. It is almost impossible to recreate identical pieces. Each piece collects light in a different way. It will vary depending on the shape, size of the jewelry piece and the amount of light it is exposed to when you are looking at it. Each piece takes on a new hue and sparkle depending on the colors surrounding it.
We have yet to create two pieces that are identical - but who wants the same anyway! Having created several ooohs, ahhhs and oopses , we have discovered that there is a child like anticipation as to what the end product will look like.
